Postpartum Care

No matter how your delivery goes, your body will need time to heal.

Common symptoms postpartum include:

  • Vaginal bleeding that can last as long as 6 weeks postpartum

  • Cramping that can be worse with breastfeeding

  • Pain in your back, neck, or joints. Labor is like a workout! So you will have some post partum soreness and pain. Get plenty of rest, and hydration during this time.

  • Pain in your perineum (the area between your vagina and anus)

  • Pain around your incision (if you had a cesarean birth)

  • Swollen breasts

  • Bladder problems

  • Bowel problems

  • Hemorrhoids

It is also very common to have lots of mood changes and anxiety. Please communicate with your provider if you are experiencing any depression or sadness.
