Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic Organ Prolapse happens when there is a weakening or loss of support in the muscles and ligaments in the pelvic floor. The organs above the pelvic floor structure such as the bladder, uterus, cervix, bowels and rectum can start to herniate through the vagina as a result of this weakness. This can cause several issues such as pelvic pressure and pain, voiding difficulties and issues having a bowel movement. It can also cause low back pain.

Risks of POP include:

  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Long labors
  • Multiple children
  • Chronic cough or chronic constipation
